Today the Anti-Counterfeiting Group hosted its third online fireside chat. This time with retired Professional Lead at Powys Trading Standards, Clive Jones and was a great way to finish off a busy week.
Clive, who has spent most of his time trying to combat illicit crime, reminisced about his career working at Powys County Council Trading Standards.
Before starting his career in trading standards, Clive studied Business at the University of Sheffield. Since leaving university he started his journey at Powys where he continued to see the evolution of trading standards throughout his thirty-five years with the local authority.
Phil and Clive chatted for just under an hour covering the variety and changing scene of trading standards and how the scope changed to targeting criminals, how intelligence is needed for officers to be able to do their job effectively and the types of messages that need to be heard regarding criminality and dangerous counterfeits that affect consumers.
Clive spoke about how emerging issues and increasing threats like the Coronavirus pandemic effected his work and how he adapted to these changes and shifts in priorities. He stressed the importance of local services and that they are key to helping and supporting local businesses and communities to keep consumers safe from counterfeiters.
Phil ended the Fireside Chat to award Clive with the ACG Lifetime Achievement Award which highlighted his accomplishments during his career and everything he has done to help combat illicit crime.
